The Three Categories of Water Damage

This first category of water is Sanitary water and it poses no major health risks to you or your family. Category 1 water is also called “Clear Water.”

“Clean water “it can quickly become contaminated and deteriorate to Category 2 or 3.

This water is definitely contaminated and is unsafe for either contact or consumption. Category 2, or Gray Water, is typically “overflow” water from an appliance, toilet, aquarium or waterbed.

This category of water is severely contaminated and may be highly toxic to you and your family. Called Black Water, it may contain raw sewage, urine, pesticides, heavy metals or toxic organic substances.

If not properly treated, cleaned up or dried out, Category 1 and Category 2 can over time become a Category 3 situation.

Over time, untreated. improperly dried out Category 1, 2 and 3 may become a mold situation.
